With the immediate return to the Premier League, Newcastle United will be desperate to strengthen up their team as they have been confirmed to be interested in signing Villarreal attacker Alfonso Pedraza, according to report from IBTimes.
The report further claims that the Championship winners will be battling off competitions from Southampton for the 21-year-old La Liga star.
Pedraza, who is playing for Deportivo Alaves on loan from rivals Villarreal, has had his own very taste of English football in the Championship side with Leeds United.
The Magpies had formerly sent scouts to watch the attacker while playing for Alaves on loan this season and are very pleased with what they found, with a keen interest of landing him back to English football.
The Championship sides, Leeds were said to have had a must-buy option in the loan deal in which the 21-year-old was brought for, should the Whites had gained a promotion to the English Top Flight.
Chritian Atsu already stars for the Magpies in the wing position but has not delivered much of a product from his end, as Rafael Benitez will be looking to land him some competition should they land the Villareal star.
Pedraza still seems to have a long way to go in his career as he could only bag himself a goal in 14 appearances when he featured for Leeds United in the Championship division.
However, with Southampton also in the race for the attacker, the Magpies should be ready for some fierce competitions but a deal during the January transfer window seems to be impossible as he is playing for a season-long loan deal with Alaves.
Villarreal will be willing to sell the winger in the summer should they receive a huge sum for him, after the deal collapsed with Leeds following their failure to qualify for a promotion away from the league.
