In search of making a name for himself in Europe football, Manchester City centre-back Pablo Maffeo will be joining up Europa League-bound club VFB Stuttgart for a fee of €9 million (£7.9m/$10.7m) by the end of the season according to Goal.
The 20-year-old defender, who was recently loaned out to La Liga club Girona, has been reported to have put pen to paper a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club.
Since he first signed his professional contract with the Citizens, Maffeo has only been able to appear three times for the sky Blues which was followed immediately by loan spell to Girona, where he helped them to secure a promotion to the Spanish Top-flight during the 2016/17 campaign and safety this term.
Taking a step forward in his career, as the centre back will be arriving at Germany to play for the Swabians, who will be participating in the second qualifying stages of the Europa League but only if Bayern Munich defeat Eintracht Frankfurt at the DFB-Pokal final on Saturday.
However, proving to have has a good and impressive season with the La Liga club, Girona sporting director Quique Carcel thanked him personally for his part in growing the club in the three years spent with the club.
Carcel said: “Pablo Maffeo has been one of the integral pieces of the team in the last few seasons,” said Carcel.
“We are very fortunate to have been able to count on him for the last three years and to have contributed to his growth as a player.
“I would like to thank him personally and in the name of the club for his effort, as well as wish him all the success in the future.”
Meanwhile, VFB stuttgart will not just be welcoming only Pablo Maffeo to the club, as Marc-Oliver kempf, David Kopacz and Dinamo Zagreb defender Borna Sosa were all announced to become club new signings of the summer.
