Hodgson took charge of the Crystal Palace team, which was at the bottom of the table with no point or a single goal, back in September, and has since then taken them to safety at top half of the Premier League table, with just one match to go.
Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, has been the talk of the season after engineering his club success in the Premier League with his attacking football tactics which have secured them the England Top Flight title this season and EFL Cup.
The two managers might just be in the full swing of a battle against each other for the Manager of the season, but Spurs coach Pochettino supposed the duo could share the award for the Premier League Manager of the Season.
The Spurs boss, Pochettino said via Independent:
“For me, if we only see the trophies? Of course Guardiola, and with all the context? If we analyse every single context, every single club, with the circumstance, I think Roy Hodgson.”
“For me, if you say to me, pick one – I cannot pick one. I am going to pick two. Pep Guardiola deserves it and Roy Hodgson deserves it. For me there are two winners.”
The Argentine coach could have been favored to be in contention for the award, following his third successive Champions League campaign for guiding the North Londoners to the quarter-finals this season.
But his response was: “For sure, me no,” he continued. “Because we are the best team in the world and we didn’t win a trophy, it is impossible to be the best manager.”
“For me it is like (Antonio) Conte last season and (Claudio) Ranieri the season before – whoever wins the Premier League deserves to be the best manager. It is normal.
“Then we need to create another, to analyse every single club with all the context to decide who is the best.
“If you have the best car and you win, you deserve the trophy. Then maybe you over-achieve with a car that cannot compete with another.
“To know only who is the best you need to start with the same conditions, the same car and the same engine – the same everything.”
Pep Guardiola will be favorite on this one to win the Manager of the Season, and will become the first Manchester City head coach to achieved the feat, after his strong start to season.
