Ligue 1 giants, Olympique Lyonnais are willing to let go of their defender Mouctar Diakhaby in the summer, despite interests from Southampton and Valencia, according to reports from French outlet L’Equipe.
The French-born defender has been on and off in the Lyon team this season as he could only appear for the French club 21 times – which has been majorly caused by his injury afflicted issues – but helped them secure a third finishing spot in the Ligue 1.
Diakhaby has represented France eight times in the U-21 squad but is yet to be called up for the French first team, due to his fitness problems major owe to to his injuries.
The 21-year-old defender, who progressed from Lyon academy, made his first team debut for the French club back in 2016 in a match against Bordeaux following his impressive performances shown in the Lyon youth team.
Despite not starting in every games played for the Lyonnais, Diakhaby is still sparking up interests all over Europe with Spanish club Valencia and English club Southampton sreported to be the leader in the race of acquiring his signature.
After a poor campaign in the Premier League this season finishing in the 17th position, three points away from the relegation zone. The Saints are becoming more desperate to strengthen up their squad for the next campaign.
The Saints will be facing a stiff competition in signing Mouctar Diakhaby as Valencia secured themselves a spot int the Champions League next season which will see them favorite to land the French-born forward.
