After securing Premier League football next season, Brighton and Hove Albion are deemed to strengthen up their squad and has revealed their first summer signing to be Bundesliga defender, Leon Balogun.
The Nigeria defender has officially put pen to paper in a deal that will see him at the Falmer Stadium till 2020, ending his nine-year spell at the German League.
Following the expiration of his contract with German club, Mainz 05, Balogun left the club after refusing to sign up for a contract extension.
Speaking about his move to the Premier League, Leon Balogun said: “I always had a dream to play in the Premier League, and Brighton was one of the first teams to show an interest in me.
“I’ve been following English football as much as I can in Germany, and I saw how they got promoted from the Championship.
“I liked the way they played last season in the Premier League too and how they were able to maintain their status. It’s really impressive how they work, not just as individuals, but as a team too.”
Brighton manager, Chris Hughton talks about his how excited he is to welcome the first signing of the summer.
Hughton said to the club’s website: “I am delighted to welcome Leon to the club. He will add more depth to our defensive options, and I am pleased to get our first piece of business done so early in the summer.

He is in the peak years of his career and I am sure he will integrate well into the squad.
“He also has valuable experience, having played in the Bundesliga, the Europa League and at international level.”
The German-born defender, kicked off his career at Hannover 96 and moving on from there to Werder Bremen, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Darmstadt and Mainz 05.
Leon Balogun African roots from his father makes him eligible to play for Nigeria and has already been named in the 30-man provisional squad for the World Cup to be held in Russia.
