In a bid to return to European football with a much stronger side, AS Roma have now completed the signing of defender Davide Santon for a fee of €9.5 million.
The 27-year-old defender has put pen to paper and completed a four-year move from Inter Milan to Roma which will see him at the Stadio Olimpico till the summer of 2022.
Santon said to Roma official website: “I cannot wait to get started and show everyone what I can do.
“Coming to Roma means a lot to me, I really wanted to make the move and being here now has given me a lot of motivation.”
Being able to used both legs well, the Italian defender can be deployed as a right-back, left-back and in the heart of the defence.
Graduated from Inter Milan’s academy youth system, the 27-year-old defender made senior debut for the Nerazzurri in a match against Roma in the Coppa Italia back in 2009 and has went on to bag over 100 appearances in his years with Milan.
Davide Santon impressive skills over time for Inter has seen him earn eight caps for Italy national team – making his first competitive debut for the senior team at the age of 18 also in 2009.
“We know Davide and his ability very well, but what struck me most is his desire for a resurgence in his career,” Monchi said – Roma sporting director.
“Davide is a versatile player, and the coach will be able to count on a lad who can comfortably play on both flanks.”
