Ross Barkley Completes move to Stamford Bridge for £15 million

With players switching up clubs this winter, we’ve seen the signing of Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool in a club record fee and the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona just this winter.

Premier League giants, Chelsea have taken to their official website to confirm the signing of midfielder Ross Barkley from Everton in a fee reported to be £15 million in a five-and-a-half year contract.

The Everton academy star was previously linked with a move to Stamford Bridge back in the summer, with reports claiming he was undergoing a medical at Cobhams till both side failed to agree on a deal, and is now officially a Blues player and has been assigned the No. 8 shirt previously worn by club legend Frank Lampard.

The England international is yet to star in a game for Everton this season as he was sidelined wth an hamstring injury, but will be desperate to get back on track with the England team ahead of the World Cup in Russia this year.

The 24-year-old midfielder was quite impressive for the Merseysiders last season as he was seen to have bagged five goals and eight assists, helping them finish seventh in the League which sees them qualify for the Europa League.

“I’m overwhelmed, I’m looking forward to it and I’m really excited to get started,” Barkley said to website.

“To be given a fresh start at a new club like Chelsea, it’s unbelievable for me. I’m looking forward to continuing where I left off at the end of last season and hoping to improve and add more goals to my game.”

The Blues club director Marina Granovskaia also said: “Ross is a player we have long admired and are certain he will prove to be an important player for Chelsea. He possesses outstanding technical and physical attributes, matched with good experience of the Premier League and a strong desire to succeed at the highest level. We welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him in action.”

The arrival of the England midfielder at the Bridge will see him compete with N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas for a first team shirt under Antonio Conte. The Blues boss took to the press conference to sing song of praises for the new signing tagging him as a “good prospect” .

The 24-year-old can also compete in other position just behind the striker Alvaro Morata, but will be competing against the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro in the position.
