Since the arrival of Nelson Semedo last summer from Portuguese club Benfica, the right back has dropped in form this season. Which has seen the Catalan fishing out for a better right back in the transfer market and is currently showing an interest in Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich.
With Semedo failure to prove his worth with the La Liga giants this season following his €30.5 million move last summer, bought to give more competition to Sergi Roberto at the right back position.
Ernesto Valverde revealed his plans to convert Roberto to a midfielder, but the Portuguese international performances this season leaves Valverde with the option to play Roberto at the right side of the defence.
Being unable to bench Sergi Roberto and break into the first and live up to his club expectancy this season. Barcelona are now keen to return strength to right-back position, with two potential players on their radar, Joshua Kimmich and Alvaro Odriozola, who are both valued €50 million and €40 million respectively by their club.
Odriozola is likely to be the favorite to sign, as he plays for Real Sociedad, a La Liga contender club, and won’t be needing much time to adapt to life with the Catalans.
while Kimmich, on the other hand, has already made a name for himself in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League as a top player in European football. The Germany International can be deployed on the pitch on two positions being right-back and as a central midfielder, but this season Jupp Heynckes has mostly deployed the star in the right back position, with him failing to excel in both sides.
Unlike other young player, Kimmich has never failed to turn up for his team in big games in numerous times. The 23-year-old has scored 6 goals and provided 17 assists this season, with records of four goals and three assists in the Champions League campaign.
However, with Bayern Munich known for breeding youg players they will highly be unlikely to sell their right-back this summer, after breaking in to their first team.
Report seems to be covering that the Catalans will be willing to exceed the Bavarians price tagged on their star, as they become more desperate to sign the German and strenghten their team next season.
With Niko Kovac set to take over from Heynckes as manager for the Bavarians next season, Kimmich future might be thrown in doubts and force a move to Barcelona, one might never know.
