President Florentino Perez took to the media to clear all doubts regarding their all time goalscorer departure to Juventus claiming he had to “open the door” when the prolific forward ta led a request to leave the club.
The club president also stand firm on saying they made a good business for a player who was not in their plans to sell in the summer.
The big money move to Juventus was not expected as it came as a shock to the world, with the Italian club paying €100 million to secure the service of the Portuguese International bringing an end to his nine year spell with Real Madrid.
During his time with Los Blancos, the club legend was able to add to his tally four Champions League, two La Liga, two Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cup, two UEFA Super Cup and three FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the club’s general meeting on Sunday, Florentino Perez confirms all the reasons covering the unexpected transfer of their all-time leading goalscorer.
“The release clauses are not there to be paid. If there has to be sale, it is negotiated,” he said via Goal.
“We did not want to sell him, but he wanted to go for personal reasons and we understood that, for all the good things he had done, we had to open the door for him.
“We got the highest value we could.”
The Real’s president is hoping to get a firm approval from the board to go ahead with plans to renovate the Santiago Bernabeu, although the plan will not see a major increase the stadium capacity but will stretch over 800 new spaces for people with disabilities.
“We have to make a decision on the work, by the end of the year, and on the financing issue,” he added.
“The estimated time of the development is three and a half years, which will be compatible with the sporting calendar.
“The capacity will not increase, although there will be 800 new spaces for people with disabilities.”
